IELTS Speaking part 2: Describe something you had to share with others
You should say
- What it was
- Who you shared it with
- Why you had to share it with others
- Explain how you felt about it
Sample
What it was | Born into a well-off family, so to speak, I had the privilege of not having to share almost anything with my siblings. However, one thing that I was more than willing to share was my room. |
Who you shared it with | Throughout primary school years, I would share a room with my sister who’s 5 years older than me. It stopped by the time I reached middle school as we were too grown up to live in the same room, according to my parents. |
Why you had to share it with others | As to why I had to share it, I kind of had absurd fears of darkness and ghosts. I would panic over having to sleep alone, even with the night lamp on. Not to mention that my parents believed sisters should be close by spending time together. |
And explain how you felt about it. | Although my sister and I didn’t really get along, you know, quarreling over trivial matters, there were times when I enjoyed her company. She used to nag me for not doing chores properly, or asking our parents to buy unreasonable stuff, which only after years did I understand her ways. I guess her tough love worked wonders for my self-discipline, after all. |
IELTS Speaking part 3
1. Do you think kids like to share? Why?
On the one hand, it depends on the child’s personality. Some are kind and generous by nature but others do not share the same traits. That being said, children are like sponges that absorb every word and action around them, hence it’s crucial that family members set good examples of sharing, and look out for opposite behaviors for timely adjustments.
2. What do you think is the benefit of sharing for children?
It is no coincidence that early childhood educators encourage this good habit. It mostly helps them make and keep friends. Also by sharing, they will learn that relationships are naturally reciprocal, thus in no way could be healthy if one either gives or takes too much.
3. Is there anything that parents would persuade children to share with others?
Hmm, let’s see. My parents would make me share my toys, my crayons or the TV with other kids whenever they came to visit us. I don’t think youngsters have much more to offer, it doesn’t matter what they share either. The whole point is for them to grasp the idea of fairness, to sympathize with those less privileged and act on it.
