Describe something that you can’t live without (not a computer/phone) – Part 2

Question:

Describe something that you can’t live without (not a computer/phone)

Answer:

You should say:

  • What is it
  • What you do with it
  • How it helps you in your life
  • And explain why you can’t live without it

Detailed answer:

  • What is it

It sounds unreasonable if I admit that my life actually depends on something so bad, but it is true when it comes to the microwave, for sure.

It has been over 3 years since the first time my parents bought this piece of household appliance. To be honest, I always consider myself as a technophobe, I mean, I find out that discovering a new technology or reading over and over again a thick manual book just to know how a thing functions is absolutely a torture to me. However, this was not the case with my microwave, actually, it only took me about 15 minutes to comprehend almost everything.

  • What do you do with it + How it helps you in your life

Well, I think people will see eye to eye with me that this is an indispensable item that can be found in every household, especially in a host of cosmopolitan cities. You know what, it comes in handy for students like me or fully-occupied employees, working from dawn to dusk and being unable to have a well-prepared meal. So whenever I’m snowed under hectic schedules and work, it just takes me a few minutes to decrystallize processed food, and my dish is ready to be eate.

  • And explain why you can’t live without it

Frankly speaking, I don’t know how my life would be without a microwave. Thanks to the development of technological advancements, I have to say that the microwave has become indisputably versatile. It is not only able to reheat the leftovers, which is its most fundamental function, but also cook some basic snacks such as popcorn or peel vegetables. Moreover, this equipment is very user-friendly; everybody can learn how to use it like a piece of cake, especially the elderly. Gosh, I think there is no one denying how it has made our lives so much easier.

Describe something that you can’t live without (not a computer/phone) – Part 3

  • Question 1: Why are children attracted to new things (such as electronics)?

I think this can be attributed to the inherent characteristic of every young child, which is curiosity. I mean, because the technology has been relentlessly developing day by day, electronic gadgets are updated with multiple and somewhat enigmatic functions that the youngsters would try to discover in order to fulfill their inquisitiveness. From my perspective, this is actually not a good sign, as many scientists have demonstrated that excessive use of electronics might have counterproductive effects since it will indirectly reduce the creativity and eagerness of young folks toward other things surrounding them. In fact, due to more time being allocated to sticking their eyes on screens, less time is used for discovering physical objects.

  • Question 2: Why do some grown-ups hate to throw out old things (such as clothes)?

Well, what I can think of is that because people are getting older, they are more likely to understand the value of money, and they will try to fix the stuff rather than dispose of it to buy a new one. Well, what I can think of is that because people are getting older, they are more likely to understand the value of money, and they will try to fix the stuff rather than dispose of it to buy a new one. This can be easily seen in the generation of Vietnamese grandparents. They tend to salvage old household items no matter how damaged they are and consider buying replacements a waste of money. Moreover, the reason why the elderly try to keep the old thing might be because it has a special meaning, especially when it is a gift or something they bought with a fortune. So yeah, I think it’s hard for people to throw away something that’s sentimental to them.

  • Question 3: What do you think influences people to buy new things?

As a marketing student, I would say without any doubt that advertising plays a pivotal role in affecting a customer’s purchasing decision. That’s why a large sum of money is invested by large corporations in producing effective TV commercials in order to promote their products. Celebrities also act as a determinant too. For example, soft drink giant Pepsi has signed on K-pop group Blackpink as its new brand ambassador with a mission to target the young segment. My friend is an avid fan of Blackpink, and I once saw her going to many convenience stores a day just to collect all the Pepsi cans that have the pictures of each member on them.
