IELTS Speaking: Describe an exciting competition or sporting event you have witnessed
Part 2:
You should say:
- What the competition or sporting event was
- When and where it took place
- Who won
And explain why it was exciting.
What the competition or sporting event was | One of the most thrilling sports events I have observed was the Idol Star Athletics Championships, also known as ISAC. It is a prominent South Korean sporting event that brings together K-pop celebrities from various groups to participate in athletic activities.. |
When and where it took place | The specific ISAC event that truly stuck out to me was the 2020 Lunar New Year Special, which was held in the Goyang Gymnasium in South Korea. Even though I was not there in person, I watched the entire show online with several friends who are also huge K-pop fans. We were engrossed in the event from beginning to end, which lasted the entire day. |
Who won | What made this ISAC so remarkable was the women’s archery final between TWICE and Red Velvet. Since this sport provides opportunities for the audience to see how their idols can demonstrate their concentration, composure, and even surprisingly impressive athletic ability, it has been one of the most popular activities of the event. Both teams were well-prepared and competed with seriousness. The members of TWICE were amazing, particularly Tzuyu and Dahyun. Tzuyu shot a perfect 10 and struck the bullseye dead center. Even the other idols in the audience responded with awe. It was pleasant to witness, especially given that these idols spend most of their time training for music performances and concerts, so it was refreshing to see them in a different atmosphere, supporting one another and having fun. |
And explain why it was exciting | I found the entire watching experience both exciting and thrilling. Seeing stars from other groups talking, joking, and sometimes seriously competing help create a more intimate connection with the fans. In addition, I also enjoy many funny behind-the-scenes moments, where my idols make silly warm-ups, fall over obstacles, or make jokes with the MCs, all of which made this my all-time favourite sport show. |
Part 3:
-
Is sport important?
Certainly, sports are truly vital since they keep individuals healthy and physically active, especially in our current hectic lifestyle. Additionally, it helps enhance mood and lowers stress, which benefits mental health. By taking sport, in both individual or teamwork ones, we can learn many important life lessons, including persistence, discipline, and collaboration. Whether in tiny communities or at global gatherings, sport can unite people. Overall, sports have an important role in both personal growth and social interaction.
-
Do you agree that sports stars earn too much money?
Sports celebrities do, in my opinion, occasionally make a lot of money, particularly when contrasted with other significant professions like educators, nurses, and other vital jobs. But they also generate enormous sums of money from sponsorships, ticket sales, and advertising, so their earnings frequently correspond to their market value. They also put in a lot of training, deal with pressure all the time, and have brief careers because of their physical limitations. Nonetheless, the enormous salary disparity between athletics and other professions might appear unjust. Therefore, even though I can see why they make so much money, I do think that other significant vocations should be valued more equally.

Do you think children get enough exercise these days?
Nowadays, I believe that kids do not receive enough exercise in many situations. Some children spend excessive amounts of time sitting inside due to the proliferation of cell phones, video games, and or even online courses. Physical exercise is frequently substituted with screen time, which can contribute to health issues like obesity or bad posture. While some schools continue to encourage outdoor play and athletics, not all kids have access to secure areas where they may be active. Therefore, in my opinion, more work has to be done to promote regular activity in kids’ everyday routines.
