| Who he/she is | Since everyone in my family works in entirely different sectors, I have to admit that it is difficult for me to picture myself starting a business with them. However, if given the opportunity, I believe I would like to collaborate with my older brother. |
| Whether you worked together before | Despite the fact that I have never worked with him before, his attributes are identical to those of my dream coworker. To start with, he has a lot of patience. He is also a self-starter who does not need others to tell him what to do. |
| What kind of work would you like to do with him/her | Actually, I have always wanted to open a chain of BBQ restaurants with my brother, since he excels at both managing and working in restaurants. He previously studied culinary management in Canada, where he also worked at a casino restaurant. Currently, he is enrolled in a master’s degree in restaurant management. When it comes to me, I have a strong interest in communication and aspire to be a communication strategist one day. If things go well, my brother will handle the cooking and management while I promote and advertise the restaurant. Given that my family is now located in Saigon, a city with a high concentration of foreigners, I feel our business will be successful. I imagine a lot more people will come in if our restaurant serves BBQ dishes. Just so you know, I have tried a lot of the city’s BBQ joints, but in all honesty, just a few provide cuisine that compares to my brother. In the distant nation, my brother had already sampled the native foods. I believe this to be the reason why the cuisine he prepares is consistently superior to any meal I have had at Saigon’s European eateries. |
| And explain how you feel about this family member | Working with him would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me. There is no doubt in my mind that we are a unique mix. His expertise and my enthusiasm would propel our restaurant’s expansion to new heights. |

- What kinds of family businesses are common in your country?
The food industry is, in my opinion, the most common type of family company in Vietnam. Since the forefathers only passed down secret recipes to their offsprings, the family members do not want anyone else to know how the dish is prepared. They are scared that others may steal their secret formulas. That, I believe, is why there are so many family food enterprises in Vietnam, where only family members work.
- Is it good to work with family members? Why?
Working in a family company has both advantages and disadvantages. But in this instance, I think the benefits exceed the drawbacks. We can cooperate and communicate with our family members more amicably since we know them personally. In addition to that, because other family members mediate the disputes, it is simple to settle them skillfully.
- Why do people want to do family business? What benefits are there when working for big companies?
In my opinion, family company founders may desire to hand off their businesses to the next generation because they do not want their heirs to squander their time after graduation looking for employment. Furthermore, the family business owner may have trusting issues and doesn’t want outsiders to disrupt their company’s operation. When it comes to working for large corporations, the compensation or salary may increase with the size of the organization. What is more, working for multinational or private firms may provide individuals with numerous opportunities to visit other countries and interact with people from different cultural backgrounds.
