Part 2: Describe a time when you missed an appointment
You should say:
- When and where did it happen?
- What was the appointment for?
- What happened when you missed it?
- And explain how you felt about the appointment
When and where did it happen? | To be honest, I am usually prompt and proactive when it comes to keeping all my appointments whether those are with my family, friends or my colleagues. However, I am also a human and there are some situations that occur in your life which are unexpected. Today, I would like to talk about the most regrettable moment when I missed an appointment with Thu, my best friend in high school three weeks ago. |
What was the appointment for? | The original purpose for our appointment was to say goodbye to her at the airport. I must say that I admire her very much. Despite her poor conditions, she had won the full-ride scholarship to study abroad in the U.K, which was very incredible. We were both so happy and excited after hearing the good news. Anyways, her flight was at 7 p.m so we decided to meet up at 6.30 p.m to see each other for the last time. |
What happened when you missed it? | Seeing that the airport was within a short distance from my office, I even thought I would come to the meeting point sooner than the time we had agreed. On a normal day, I usually drive through Le Duan street so it only takes about 30 minutes for me to get to the airport. It was around 5:30 p.m when I started driving, and to my surprise, there was a big parade in the city center that day. The road was blocked for the whole evening so no vehicles were allowed to get in that street. The only other way to get through was just a small road near there. All the vehicles had to move from the single lane, which caused horrible congestion. Little did I know that there would be a traffic jam ahead, and I had to wait for more than an hour. It was highly irritating, and I was going to blow a fuse at some moment. Thinking that I couldn’t make it to the airport to see Thu, I immediately called her and explained the situation. |
Explain how you felt about the appointment | It was equally a frustrating and awkward situation for both of us. I even felt very sad as it could be a very long time until I can meet her again. Luckily, Thu wasn’t mad at me and I was able to send her some good wishes before she left for the U.K. Although our relationship is still good up to now, the event on that day was a lesson for me to prepare things more carefully. |
Part 3
- How do people who are busy remember things they need to do?
Well, I believe that people who are occupied usually have different tools to help them remember the tasks they need to do, especially with the random ones they might have on a daily basis. One of the easiest ways to do this is by using the post-it notes. People only need to write the works and put the notes everywhere in the house to remind them. This method is extremely simple and helpful not even with busy people but also with people with clinical deteriorating memory problems as well.
- Do you think it is a good idea to use electronic devices for putting reminders?
Yes, definitely. Equipment like digital calendars can help us remember what to do in the future. For a long time before, people only used automated reminders for tasks where they met other people like meetings, seminars, appointments, and other events where somebody expected them to be there on time. However, with the advanced technology nowadays, we can put everything into a programmed calendar. By doing this, we can ensure that all the work gets done without missing anything. Another benefit is that the upcoming tasks in the reminders will give you a sense of urgency– The current task needs to be finished since the other is coming up soon.
- Which is more important, a work related appointment or an appointment with a friend? Why?
From my perspective, both of them are equally important. People should keep their promises and show up at the meetings on time. However, there’s always a chance that something will come up and get in the way of a scheduled meeting. When that happens, it’s essential to craft an appropriate request to reschedule that meeting as soon as possible.
