Giving Opinion – Sample IELTS Speaking Part 2 & 3

Giving Opinion – Sample IELTS Speaking Part 2

Describe a time when someone asked for your opinion

You should say:

  • Who asked for your opinion
  • Why he/she wanted to know your opinion
  • What opinion you gave
  • And explain how you felt when he/she asked for your opinion.
  • Who asked for your opinion

Let me think, I’m kind of timid to share my perspective on something but when I read this question the time that springs to mind is when one of my friends – An turned to me for my opinion on daily time management. As I know, An is kind of an organized person so his question at that time left me totally flabbergasted.

  • Why he/she wanted to know your opinion

To the best of my recollection, it was when the Covid-19 first hit the World in 2019, everyone was just confined at home and got bored. I guess the reason why he would love to seek my opinion is simply because An felt like he’d been using his time ineffectively. He always spent excessive time on useless things like using social media networks or playing video games and ended up not having enough time for his priorities like exams.

  • What opinion you gave

An didn’t plan out his daily activities and always did things off the cuff. Before final exams, he just wanted to boost his productivity in study so he decided to make a change. After listening to him, I suggested he improve his time management skills by making a daily to-do list like writing down what to do on a day-to-day basis the night before.

At first, he was reluctant to follow my opinion. Then, I showed him encouragement, big goals I achieved by using this method and eventually, he took mine.

  • And explain how you felt when he/she asked for your opinion

Up to now, it’s been 3 years since the day An practiced the to-do list method and he still keeps doing it every single morning and has gained numerous great targets in life.

Needless to say, sharing our ideas might help someone out when they are in need. Everyone just needs some time to adopt a new habit and if they have enough effort and determination, they can make it.

Giving Opinion – Sample IELTS Speaking Part 3

  • Why do some people dislike giving their opinions?

From my personal perspective, that boils down to a couple of reasons. First and foremost, it is undeniable that a fear of negative feedback from public view would refrain an individual from sharing their own opinions. Added to that, the self-assuredness is another big factor that people don’t like giving a controversial viewpoint to others who don’t share the same ideas. And finally, in some cases, people may inflict punishment if publicly speaking out of their minds. All in all, those are the key reasons that lead to the reluctance when giving outlooks on the lives of many people.

  • Why do people like to express their opinions on the Internet nowadays?

The way I see it, netizens usually have the freedom of speech without worrying about being judged or revealing their life status. Thus, the majority of people are in favor of expressing views and ideas on the Internet. On top of that, it’s a great chance for minded individuals to give ideas and philosophies which kind of matter and are valued to a society bringing them a sense of community. To my mind, Cyberspace allows online users to have the right to come out of themselves and even raise their voices.

  • What are the disadvantages of sharing opinions on the Internet?

As far as I’m concerned, one of the drawbacks is that it’s a colossal waste of time to have online discussions with others due to the different time zones. This is simply because people might have to allocate most of their time to come up with new ideas and wait for the responses. They’ll end up with little quality time for work or school. What’s more, false information and unverified contents can be spread easily. Those might confuse the netizens and result in forming wrong standpoints causing infamous scandals and disturbing social order. Even though online discussions arouse people’s sense of sharing and comfort, I think we still have to put it in moderation.
