PART 2 – IELTS SPEAKING: TRAFFIC JAM

1. Bài mẫu

You should say:

  • When it was
  • Where you were going
  • How long you had to wait
  • Explain how you felt about this
When it was There were plenty of times when I was stranded in the middle of the road, but I guess I will talk about the most recent one. To begin with, in reply to the initial point of when it was, it was 2 months ago when I was on my way to school. That day, I was going to enter my English class in the morning but at the intersection of Vo Thi Sau and Truong Dinh Street, there was a serious car crash.
Where you were going
How long you had to wait This unexpected accident caused a chaotic situation. At first, I was so fed up with the constant honking and toxic fumes of other vehicles. I remembered that all the city dwellers were rushing in their vehicles to their jobs, and many of them entered the wrong lanes to cut the traffic. After a while, I tried to find some shortcuts, but it always led me to the dead-end alleys. Thirty minutes later, the police came to clear the jam, yet it couldn’t ease my frustration. Not to mention, I got caught up in a traffic jam for over one hour and a half in the scorching heat of Ho Chi Minh city.
And explain how you felt about this The unbearable weather together with the terrible traffic congestion drove me crazy. To make a long story short, I was late for the class and the teacher was unhappy about this. It was such a terrible experience, which I never want to experience again for the rest of my life.

PART 3 – IELTS SPEAKING: TRAFFIC JAM

1. Bài mẫu

  • Are traffic jams a severe problem in your area?

To be honest, Ho Chi Minh City is one of the biggest metropolitans in Vietnam, so there are many traffic jams occurring here on a daily basis. Tourists visiting Ho Chi Minh city for the first time may be shocked by how terrible these traffic jams are. Thus, most local commuters always have to spend extra time waiting because of being stuck in traffic.

  • What are some positive and negative aspects of transportation in your country?

Obviously, there are several positive features. However, I guess that the most noteworthy evidence would be that in Viet Nam, motorbikes contribute a lot to an easy commute. This is undoubtedly favourable because a rider can go anywhere, even some places where cars cannot get in like small alleys with their motorbikes. More than that, people are given more flexibility to go whenever they want and not depend on public transport schedules. Whereas, using private vehicles also causes traffic congestion because we cannot control people’s bad driving habits. Although many people are incredibly careful on the street, there are some cases of drink-driving or reckless driving that happen repeatedly.

  • What are your suggestions on how to reduce traffic jams in your area?

Personally, there are a few actions that could be taken. Firstly, the easiest way to work it out would be to raise people’s awareness of driving safety. When people are taught about what they should obey when commuting on the street, traffic jams could be significantly reduced. Besides, the government should also take action in expanding the street to fit the traffic volume.

2. Từ vựng và cụm từ

  • metropolitan (n): người thành thị
  • on a daily basis: mỗi ngày
  • commuter (n): người tham gia giao thông
  • commute (v): di chuyển
  • alley (n): hẻm
  • traffic volume: lượng xe cộ
