Đề bài: International travel has many advantages to both travelers and the country visited. Do you think advantages outweigh disadvantages?

International tourism has evidently been associated with positive impacts to both tourists as well as the host countries. However, I think the possible detrimental effects on the environment from the hospitality activities are more severe in comparison with existing benefits.

On the one hand, international travel is often beneficial for the local economies because of the employment opportunities it offers. As travelling abroad has been rendered increasingly affordable by globalization, countries are more likely to experience a sustained influx of tourists, giving rise to a high demand for new tourism facilities and jobs, especially those in the hospitality industry. As a result, international tourism could motivate growth and boost local economic activities as well as fund infrastructure development. As for tourists, being able to visit a foreign country means that they can be exposed to a variety of cultures different from their own. This exposure to foreign customs and people, which was not much viable in the past, could provide modern travellers with more learning opportunities and thus, broaden their perspectives greatly.

On the other hand, international travel occuring on an immoderate degree can eventually lead to environmental problems because it often incentivizes the overbuilding of tourism infrastructure. This excessive construction, which is fueled by the constant arrivals of tourists, has a tendency to alter or even worse destroy natural habitats, possibly resulting in the extinction of native animals or plants in the host country. Essential resources to sustain the tourism industry, such as oil and water, are also put under immense pressure by this redundant building of tourism facilities. The exhaustion of such resources could pose a threat to the locals due to the shortage of basic needs emerging from this.

In conclusion, travelling abroad not only can enhance travellers’ understanding of foreign cultures but also improves both the economy and image of a country. However, this does not justify the potential environmental damages caused by the large crowd of visitors, or the overexploitation of natural resources.
