IELTS Speaking:
Part 2: Describe a piece of art you like.
You should say:
- What the work of art is
- When you first saw it
- What you know about it
And explain why you like it.
What the work of art is | To be honest, painting, as a form of art, is something I really enjoy viewing at my leisure. Therefore, I have spent quite some time visiting several galleries over the past few years, during my holidays in different cities.
Among many wonderful pieces of art, I would love to discuss the picture from the Louvre Museum that really struck the chord with me. |
When you first saw it | It happened when my family and I traveled to Paris and spent the entire day at the Louvre Museum. Here, I came across The Starry Night – a magnificent oil painting by Vincent van Gogh that dates to the 19th century, I believe. It is regarded as an emblem of expressionism and is among the most well-known paintings in the world. |
What you know about it | What I truly admire about this picture is that it gives a feeling of movement and emotion that is both dreamy and chaotic. It portrays van Gogh’s inner anguish as well as his admiration for the beauty of the night. Another thing I especially enjoy about ‘Starry Night’ is how it creates a sense of awe and reflection. I adore how van Gogh used texture and color. The vibrant colors and strong brushstrokes convey a sense of vitality, while the serene village below contrasts with the tumultuous sky, implying a harmony between chaos and calm. It serves as a reminder that beauty can endure despite adversity. I find this piece of art to be emotionally compelling in addition to being aesthetically pleasing. It highlights the intricacies of human experience and urges viewers to consider their own thoughts and opinions. |
And explain why you like it | I enjoyed it because it was mesmerizing when you look at Vincent van Gogh’s art. You are lured into the picture and you feel intrigued about the meaning. Even after several months, I can still clearly recall every single aspect of this masterpiece. I am hoping to schedule a visit to the museum again so I can see its splendor up close. |
Part 3:
1/How do people in your country feel about art?
In my nation, people typically have a profound respect for art, recognizing its significance in culture and society. Many people believe that art is an essential tool for communication and expression that may represent both personal and societal experiences. There is a considerable interest in many art genres, from traditional to modern, and communities frequently connect with art through local galleries, museums, and public installations. Many people enjoy how art can stimulate intellect, generate conversation, and address societal concerns.
2/Do people in your country prefer music over art?
Indeed, they do. We all agree that music plays a vital role in people’s lives. Young and old folks have diverse musical interests. Specifically, the young frequently choose quick snappy rhythms to quiet and relaxing music. Compared to art, I think people in my country might have easier access to various types of music.

3/Should the government provide support for art and cultural activities?
Society may gain a lot from supporting artistic and cultural endeavors. Here are some reasons why government backing may be vital. First and foremost, government support may aid in the preservation of cultural heritage, guaranteeing that customs, languages, and histories are preserved for the next generation. Second, not every community has access to culture and the arts. Government assistance may help make art more accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial condition.
