IELTS Speaking Part 2 & 3 | Topic: A positive change

Đề bài: Describe a positive change that you made in your life

Part 2

Describe a positive change that you made in your life. You should say:

  • What is it
  • How it is made
  • When you tried it for the first time

And explain why you like it.

What it is  Right off the top of my head, the event that motivated me to change in order to become a better version of myself was when I got my first bicycle.
Why you did it  I remember it was a present my father gave me on my 22nd birthday. It was a brand-new sports bicycle. That was a very important day for me. For the first time, I could go out on my own and go as far as I wanted to. I polished the bicycle twice a week and took really good care of it. Of course, this only lasted a few months, and then I lost interest in it.
Who you did it with  I frequently spent at least 30 minutes a day riding along Vo Van Kiet Street with my best friends. With the blue sky, navy river and green trees, my eyes were filled with beautiful landscapes. It was a very good way to relax myself from the heavy pressure of working and studying.
And explain how you feel about the change I think the reason why it was a meaningful change for me is that for the first time in my life, I realized what a fantastic thing it was to be free, and to go anywhere with my free will. That was the beginning of a lifelong craving for travelling. By the time I graduated from university, I had almost been to most of the major cities of my beautiful Vietnam. And now I’m thinking of the world outside Vietnam. Of course, as a return for his kindness, I will buy my father a brand new car on his 60th birthday.

Từ vựng và cụm từ

Free will ( noun): ý chí tự do

Part 3: Discussion

1. Is it easy for old people to change?
Well, it’s a tough question. I think in this dynamic and ever-changing world, there are always new things and ideas coming out. To be honest, the decline of a brain circuit essential to goal-directing learning makes it difficult for the elderly in general and Asian elderly, in particular, to adapt to new environments.

2. How can people change their daily routine if they want to?
I am presuming the topic is about changing a poor routine that isn’t making our life better. From my perspective, there are two ways for people to change their daily routine. First of all, they can make minor adjustments to gradually break bad habits first such as waking up a bit earlier, eating less junk food since a lot of changes at once entirely throw you off balance. Secondly, at the same time we can form new habits such as taking up a new sport, starting to learn a foreign language.

3. What are the disadvantages when people keep making changes?
I think too many abrupt changes or changing too often may disrupt people’s lives to some extent. Change often entails a sense of insecurity or instability which might increase people’s risk of mental issues such as anxiety or depression. Added to that, it takes time to adjust to a new environment and thrive in it. Therefore, if people keep changing major aspects of their lives like jobs or living areas, they might not be able to make any significant progress at all.
