SAMPLE

Modernization has brought about abundant conveniences in all aspects of life, with no exception regarding novel entertainments for the youth. While little objections exist against television programs and digital games being adolescents’ contemporary pastimes, conservatives still strongly advocate towards the priority of traditional quality time enjoyments, one of which is book explorations. From a personal perspective, I perceive that both points of view display competitive arguments, and therefore should be equally examined.

Factually speaking, the comprehension of printed texts has proven its superiority against digital counterparts in regard to the benefits towards children’ neural developments. Much large-scaled research publicly confirms television and computers’ detrimental impacts on humans’ neural activities, resulting in dementia, depression and focus deterioration. Reading books, on the other hand, affect brains in ways an exercise equivalently does to physical well-being. It is, moreover, an undisputed view that reading books plays crucially towards success for all outstanding individuals in the modern world, from Elon Musk to Barack Obama.

Yet, early exposure to technologies would also be of significant advantage to youngsters dwelling in this rapidly evolving time. While access to books certainly helps towards critical thinking, children’s early acquaintance to digital platforms’ unique cultures and insights would enable them better success in this increasingly ever-changing world. For instance, potential networks with fellow digital natives and knowledge of new, on-demand skills are among many positive consequences from gaming quests, of which critical thinking may not offer as directly. As said, having technological literacy as a part of life equals less risk of falling behind on a digitally embedded reality.

In conclusion, while opinions divide on whether a conventional approach to children’s entertainment would outweigh that of modern means, I believe both perspectives have plentiful merits to bring about for children’s developments.
