What it is | It is commonly believed by many people that the key to keep fit and stay healthy is doing exercises or going to the gym. While it is true that physical activities bring huge benefits, healthy eating is what I believe plays an important role in maintaining one’s health and shape. |
How it helps in staying fit and healthy | The definition of a healthy diet is the intake of various sources of good nutrition such as protein from meat, fibre from vegetables, legumes from peas or beans or vitamins from fruits. Moreover, it is also advisable that people should eat a limited amount of the wrong kind of fat like saturated fat and sugar. The intake of adequate and appropriate foods will not only boost the immune system, but it also protects our digestive system function from possible risks. |
How often you do it (or see people do it) | For me, eating healthy is not always a piece of cake and I believe it is true for most young Vietnamese these days. Since there is a rising trend in food delivery and the integration of various cuisines like Korean, Thai or Japanese, the quality and appearance of the food have been leveraged making them become more mouthwatering and attractive.
Furthermore, working nine-to-five makes people pressed for time to prepare their own meals in the morning, resulting in an increase in eating out at offices and companies. Therefore, it is quite difficult to take a rain check on colleagues’ offers when it comes to lunch. |
And explain why you think it is important | The importance of a healthy diet can be proved in different aspects. Firstly, Vietnamese people’s regular meals contain a large number of condiments like salt, sugar, or MSG, which are the root of the development of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Hence, providing our bodies with essential nutrition can help get rid of being exposed to possible disease. Subsequently, eating healthy is proven to boost energy levels and mood, which bring about a growth in productivity and reduce stress. In the end, the food we intake is what matters the most, not only does it improve our physical and mental health, but it is also time-efficient for busy people who do not have time for exercises. |

What do people in your country do to stay fit and healthy?
In my country, people maintain their health and shape in diverse ways such as eating healthy, exercising and taking traditional herbal methods. Vietnamese foods are low in calories compared to other nations, making it easier for people to diversify their healthy diet and provide themselves with the necessary nutrition. Regarding physical activities, while young people tend to go to the gym, old people have the habit of waking up early in the morning and doing Qigong to improve their health. Moreover, traditional methods like herbal tea, Eastern medicine or yoga and meditation are also popular among Vietnamese people.

Are there other sports that are popular in your country?
Apart from regular exercises, Vietnamese people also favour soccer, also known as the king of all sports. Their love is not only shown through the number of people who play it, but it is especially expressed by the spirit and also their pride when it comes to international football matches, at which people will get down the streets and celebrate the victory of their country’s team. Another sport which is also common and well-known in Vietnam is badminton. It is an easy-to-play sport and is also suitable for different kinds of ages and genders.

Are there ways to help busy people learn about it?
In my perspective, the government and corporations play crucial roles in keeping their people healthy, hence improving productivity and efficiency at work. In numerous ways, from the very simple steps such as offering a piece of advice and instruction on how to stay healthy to more advanced ones like providing lunch or meals with primary and essential foods rich in various nutrients, can enhance individuals’ awareness and encourage them to engage in a more sustainable lifestyle. However, the most important thing is that the people themselves must recognize and take action on their own to see the real results.
