It is argued that young people should be required to perform voluntary labor to help those in need. In my opinion, although there may be a number of issues with this practice, such as time waste and exploitation of the young, the overall effect is still highly beneficial for the young generation.

On the one hand, the downsides of compelling young people to participate in unpaid work are obvious. The primary factor is that these tasks, without a doubt, require a significant amount of time. In some cases, many people have to dedicate their leisure time to abide by the abundant policies, rules, or required skills to be suitable for these occasions. Given the hectic study schedule of numerous students, there is every likelihood that they cannot make sufficient time for resting and relaxation, leading to certain mental difficulties such as stress and depression. Second, since the nature of voluntary work is cost-free, young people might be taken advantage of by some for-profit organizations. For instance, To la Loc, a well-known TikToker from Vietnam, used to recruit young people as volunteers for his resort, but his true goal was to hire workers without paying any money.

Notwithstanding the aforementioned drawbacks, there are more important advantages to urging youth to support the community voluntarily. One of the primary benefits is the  development of their moral compass. This is due to the fact that assisting people in need, like the impoverished and the disabled, helps them to recognize the struggles of those in need and comprehend their plight, which may lead to their becoming more sympathetic citizens. Additionally, this inclination is advantageous for young people’s future profession. More specifically, recruiters nowadays value applicants who participate in volunteer work and contribute to the community, which proves that these individuals have gained practical experience and possess a commitment and responsibility mindset. As a result, individuals whose resumes are packed with such activities and experience  might get greater job prospects.

In conclusion, the benefits of requiring young people to engage in charitable work outweigh the disadvantages, which include losing valuable time and being exploited, and include improved morals and more career opportunities.
