IELTS Speaking Task 2: Place

IELTS Speaking Task 2: Place

Topic: Describe an interesting place you have been to with a friend

Part 2

You should say:

  • What and where the place is
  • Who you went with
  • When you went there
  • What you did there
  • And explain why you think it is interesting
What and where the place is I haven’t traveled in a while, but recently I had a chance to go to Phu Quy, an astonishing island in the southern province of Binh Thuan. Since it is quite far away from Phan Thiet City, this place hasn’t yet been fully discovered, and still remains a remote and wild allure
Who you went with I went on the trip with my colleagues, about seven of us in total. They were having a summer break and I knew this would be a great opportunity for us to retreat
When you went there As far as I can recall, we traveled around July, and spent two nights on the island. Our group set off pretty early in the morning, and we had to sit on a cruise ship in order to get to the destination, however, I could not avoid motion sickness. But it got better throughout the trip
What you did there We booked a lovely guesthouse near the seashore for the first day. I was captivated by the vivid landscape, it was a perfect combination between the ocean and the land.

Our activities during the first day were mostly exploring the local cuisine, I must say, the seafood was appetizing. After the meal, we visited a small coffee shop, but it was shut down so all of us just took photographs of the scenery. But the perfect highlight of the day was when we randomly discovered the island’s flagpole, it was not crowded and we had some good-looking pictures up there I would say.

On the second day, we planned to go scuba diving, because we heard the island has a living reef environment, which is one of the top spots for snorkeling. We sat on a boat and moved to a raft in the middle of a village. The waters were crystal clear, to the point I could see some little fish swimming around in the ocean.

We also went kayaking to overlook the nature around us. Maybe two hours later, we went on another raft for lunch, the meal included fresh seafood and all of us were fully stuffed. Later at the end of the day, we all gathered up to have deep conversations, I remembered the stories that night were greatly appreciated because we were honest to each other.

And explain why you think it is interesting The trip, now I think back, is near and dear to my heart. I got the chance to just being present with my friends, sharing stories, and making memories. I bawled my eyes out after the trip ended. I even set a picture of a pathway on the island as my phone background, because I had so much fun and those moments of genuine joy will motivate me to cherish more this friendship.

Part 3

  • Why do people need friends?

To my way of thinking, friendship plays a pivotal role in our lives as it provides us emotional support during challenging times. Having friends is also a means to alleviate stress and feelings of isolation. Whenever I encounter difficulties or seek advice, my friends are always there to offer diverse perspectives and ideas. I think friends are essential for our well-being, and enrich our lives.

  • Does technology help people communicate better with others?

Absolutely, technology has profoundly revolutionized how we communicate. It allows us to have diverse forms of communication, like texting, phone calling, or social media. These tools enable seamless and instant communication, regarding the location, and help us to maintain those interactions, which might not be the case in other respects

  • Do you prefer to go out with a group of friends or just with a few close friends?

It depends on the context, but for my preference, I love hanging out with just a few best friends. It can offer me to have a better, meaningful interaction, while in a larger setting, having to meet and greet every single person is sometimes overwhelming I would say. Nonetheless, I have no choice if it’s my job and responsibility I must do.

  • Can talking with people improve social skills?

Definitely, engaging in conversations with others can seriously enhance social skills. It helps individuals build confidence in social environments, exposes them to different experiences, from there they can actually learn and practice the ability to see situations from other people’s viewpoints. Having conversations regularly will refine those social skills, leading to improved communication, and increased confidence.
