2/ ESSAY
The line graph delineates how much copper, nickel, and zinc prices changed throughout 2014. Overall, all three materials’ prices shared the same tendency in percentage change, with a noticeable drop in the year’s first half, before leveling off and increasing slightly toward the end of the period, albeit at different rates.
According to the chart, the first six months witnessed a descending trend in these prices. Specifically, the price of nickel declined abruptly from 6% in January to 1% in March, after which it leveled out for two months and hit bottom at negative 3% in June, marking its lowest price of the time frame. In a similar fashion, at a more steady rate, the copper price went down from 2% to 0,5% for the first 4 months, before hitting rock bottom at -0,5% between May and June. Despite a fractional rise from 1% to 3% in January, the value of zinc gradually fell to its lowest point at -1% during mid-2014.
In the third quarter, all copper, zinc, and nickel all experienced a mild increase in July and kept their figure unchanged until September at 1%, 0.5%, and -1%, respectively. During the last three months of 2014, whereas there was not any noticeable movement in the change of copper’s price, which only increased to 1.5%, nickel’s one rocketed from -2% to 1% and plateaued toward the end of the year. Lastly, Zinc held the highest growth in its price among the three materials, reaching 2% by December 2014.
