What it was about Last week I just rewatched one of my go-to movies called Gone girl, an adaptation from Gillian Flynn’s novel of the same name. This psychological thriller stars Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck in a deteriorating marriage. On the occasion of their 5th anniversary, Nick returns home to find his wife Amy missing. Amy’s fame for being the inspiration for her parents’ Amazing Amy childrens’ book ensures huge media attention, and amidst all that, Nick’s apathy towards this unfortunate event renders him suspicious.
Where you watched it I’ve always watched it at home on pirate websites, which I know I’m guilty for. Not like I have other options since it is not available elsewhere, even on Netflix given it’s a classic.
Why you like it I’ve always had a thing for movies with clever, sociopathic anti protagonists. As the plot of Gone Girl unfolds, I cannot help but be in awe of Amy’s meticulous plans to frame the naive husband of her own murder. In Amy’s defense, this was revenge for his infidelity and leeching off her charity fund. But then it took several twists for Amy to have a change of heart, for which she even killed to get back to Nick. I especially love the part where her plans went south no matter how carefully planned, a realistic touch to balance out the craziness going on so far. Even then, Amy is so smart that she can always come up with a plan B.
And explain why you would like to watch it again. As a nostalgic person, I don’t mind watching a movie over and over again if it suits my tastes. Gone girl will always keep me on the edge of my seat with its gripping storyline and brilliant acting.

IELTS Speaking part 3

1. Where do people normally watch movies?

In this modern age, more and more people are watching movies in the comfort of their own homes instead of the cinema, thanks to the availability of streaming platforms such as Netflix, or not-so-legal ones as known as pirate websites. Having said that, there are theatrical movies that are guaranteed some time before making their way to the small screen, so viewers will have to go to cinemas to watch them.

2. What are the differences between watching movies at home and in a cinema?

As I see it, the key difference between them must be the facilities. Some people go to cinemas to enjoy the plot on a huge HD screen or to immerse themselves in the 360-degree, high-fidelity sound effects. Other cinema features could be the ticket box, the theme-based decorations, the snacks and beverages stall, you name it,… Altogether they form a unique cinema atmosphere that can’t quite be replicated at home.

3. Are actors or actresses important to movies? Why?

One thing for sure, a compelling plot could in no way compensate for poor acting. Actors or actresses bring characters to life and tell the story, and often can make or break a movie. While an actor’s talent is an utmost priority, he or she must also be attentive in the filming process to make suggestions, as in what could be done differently to enhance the plot.
